Now that I'm discharged, I'm afraid to look at my Credit Reports

Ok, I know my lawyer wants me to do this, but I have anxiety just thinking about looking at it. Kind of like looking at your totalled car after a huge wreck, if there's an analogy...LOL

Anyway....I'm just about at a month since discharge, so I plan to pull them in a couple of days.

I guess I should expect to see IIB on everything that was included in the Bankruptcy? Will I still see 120 days late on the cards that are discharged? Do I clean those up, or do they stay?

Can I use freeannualcreditreport.com since I pulled them from there in 2010? Please let me know your thoughts, guys....Thanks!

If it's time for your free annual, then by all means, go that route.

We had used up our free annual, but I signed us up for Equifax's credit monitoring thing. I got all 3 reports and scores, and then I get unlimited Equifax reports. Also notifies me of when their is an inquiry or change to an account. There are still a few things that need to be corrected (I am having a hard time finding some correct addresses for creditors) but once it's all clear, and has been for about a month, I am cancelling the credit watch and will just pull my free annual reports.

Definitely had a drink in my hand when I pulled it up. Not a pretty sight, but it did look a little better than having all that debt. It was somewhat of a relief to see how little debt we have now. And I can't wait to see our new car loan on there because that is the beginning of rebuilding, which will be a nice sight.
I may be smarter than an attorney, but I'm not one. No legal advice here, people.

Hi Dumpin - Thanks for your input. What kind of drink? I'm thinking this is a bourbon or vodka situation...LOL

I guess I'll see if freeannual will give it to me. I pullled it last in August 2010, so if it's once per year, and not 12 months from the last time I pulled, I'll take a shot.

Please update if freeannual gives you your reports. I pulled mine in 11-10 and am not sure if it's once in 12 months or once per calendar year!

Hmmm... for me, it was an 80 proof bourbon event. LOL!!!

Yeah, I believe they let you pull it per year, as in if you pulled in Aug 2010, you have to wait until Aug 2011. If I'm wrong, please do let me know!

Crap, I tried, it's not per calendar year, but once every twelve months. I actually pulled mine 7/27/10, so I can't pull it until then from that site.

But my hair grew around it! LOL Guess I'll take a big swig of Jack Daniels and take a look at the Equifax monitoring thing so I don't have to wait until July.

                Thanks, guys!

That is what I am wondering.... what exactly should the creditors who you included in bankruptcy say on your post bankruptcy report? I was discharged in January and the case is closed. I still haven't looked. It makes my stomach sick to even think of it. I do have an account with www.creditkarma.com, which gives you a score and a listing of a bunch of information.... but I really am not sure how accurate it is.

Be brave and do it. What's done is done. I'll probably have a drink in my hand too, when it's my turn lol

Just do it. It may not actually be that bad, and even if it is, at least you'll know where you stand. It's really important that you do it, though, just to check for errors. I had to dispute a few things after my BK closed because they weren't reporting correctly. I use TrueCredit which provides a FAKO score, so I don't get too hung up on the numbers, but it's helpful to see how it changes over time.

There are numerous threads about how your post-BK report should look, but as I understand it, everything IIB should say IIB and have a $0 balance.

annualcreditreport.com gives you a free credit report every 12 months from each of the three reporting agencies. You do not have to pull all three at once.

Once you get everything on your credit report where it should be I recommend pulling one of the three reporting agencies every 4 months (Example: Equifax now, Trans Union four months from now and Experian in another four months, then start over). By doing this your get an idea of what's going on periodically through out the year.

If you're just a few weeks out of bk, don't even bother. Give it about 6 months to settle out, then you start correcting it. It takes time...
