Unsecured Credit cards- Navy Federal Credit Union $ 10,000

    Hello,

I want to say my Chapter 7 was discharged Jan 5, 2011. My post BK credit FICO score was 670. Yesterday I was approved for a Unsecured Navy Federal Credit Union $ 10,000 Visa with 13.50 interest - no annual fee. It was just two months after the BK.

For those looking to reestablish credit you may want to try NFCU-

    Thanks,

I feel for you Scorpion, I do. I'm not trying to rub it in, but NFCU is the real deal. I've been a member on this board since 2004 and I've read about NFCU a million times but never pursued it. If I had realized that I was eligible to join before now, I would have. I just joined about 5 days ago. Already approved for a ridiculous credit line and I'm still shocked. WOW.

That's awesome!!!! The only thing I would say is this - they turn into the demons from hell if you're ever more than one month late. My atty has a special place in hell picked out for them. They are unreal if you get on their wrong side (they're also a huge financial institution). If you're on their good side they're great; else...

Heh, boy do I agree with that. I bk'd both them and USAA. Navy Fed were screaming banshees. USAA was no better but in the end I could do without NFCU for the rest of my life while I'm counting down the days to be back in the good graces of USAA.

I joined after the bankruptcy - the funny thing that makes no sense is- they gave me a unsecured credit card for over 10,000 limit but denied a car loan yesterday go figure? I ended up with ALLY for 21000 at 8 percent on a used 2006 for 72 months.

Let them know what you got. They may re-consider and match/beat your rate. CU's can do this The advantage of a CU is the manually underwrite everything and they can really choose what they want to do if it makes sense. I find it hard to believe that they gave you a 10K unsecured cc, but declned a secured auto, there must be a miscommuncaition between them and you

They made me get a secured card first (a year after discharge), then a year after that I got a regular card with a $3k credit limit. And I actually had pretty decent credit right after discharge too (no lates or collections or charge offs on my credit report).

So I don't know why some people hit the jackpot with them right away, but not everyone does. I'm happy with my $3k card now, of course. I am just saying that they didn't throw huge amounts of credit at me right off the bat.
