care credit card for dental work

I have lousy dental insurance as well. My dentist demands full payment on the day of service. Is that the norm now?

It's good to know that I might be able to get credit from Care Credit after a discharge for some dental work. I'm going to try to save up the $2200 that it will cost me though, so I don't have to go into debt.

I don't know how people can afford dental work these days. The cost keeps going up and up but people's incomes are not.

i know our "old" denist never asked ...he would bill first and then we paid the difference. since we moved to florida, one of us had to go and was asked to pay up front....if it were me...since i made the appointment and asked them if they accepted the insurance and they said "YES"...i would not have paid up front........BUT someone else in this house did...so i told him that he best call them and find out what's going on, this was just for a check up and cleaning and that is actually covered so there was no reason to pay them up front.

that office didn't do it again and actually we have never seen another bill from them...and that's because i'm sure they OWE us money.......i have to go now for a cleaning etc., but i'm going to use someone new and i made certain to ask if they bill etc. prior to setting up the appointment.

All Dentists I have been to in florida, expect full payment of what the insurance does not pay upfront. Usually for crown, half fee when mold done and temporary and balance when new crown put in. I got lucky and found a reasonable dentist in Lakeland.
I found out the metro dentist like orlando, tampa miami, charge more than smaller cities in florida. I am paying in Lakeland what I paid 10 yrs ago in tampa for crown . Tampa has almost doubled for crowns and veneers.

The last time I required some minor dental work, I got on a plane and flew to Thailand (OK, the purpose of that trip was visiting my brother). Got two fillings - cost me $60.

really...floridagail...lakeland is like 35 miles from me...it might be worth it for me to go there.....i have a broken tooth now....since this thread went up...i called and this guy office is making me wait a MONTH...so i'm thinking they are the "right" one for me.

I got 5 dental implants about 4 years ago, and a sinus lift/bone graft at a dental school for $11K and felt like it was a bargain over the $17K that a private oral surgeon would have charged. I am thankful that I was able to get them done allowing me to chew food better, hopefully for the rest of my life.

I would seriously look into getting it done in Costa Rica. Hell, they probably have a higher percentage of U.S.-trained doctors there than we do in the U.S., and their medical care is a bargain. People make a mini-vacation out of it.

I don't know if dental care is also a bargain there, but it's seriously worth checking into.

I mean 40K -- for teeth? I would consider buying used dentures on eBay first.

LOL... well you're acting like I was just gonna plunk the 40k down... :P I was just as shocked. I have thought about looking into a dental school for him or something... but I am amazed how much construction needs to be done in such a tiny work space.
