    I'm So Unpopular!

The credit card companies don't want me anymore!

My Chapter 7 was discharged in November.

Maybe it's because my Experian report says that my current score is 596 and also says very politely under my score: "Currently, your credit report does not show any significant positive information."

Actually, here's the deal. Most people on this board are talking about getting inundated with "pre-approved" credit card offers in the mail after discharge. I have only gotten offers from two: the despised First Premiere Bank -- one of their (3) offers was for a $175 yearly fee! No thanks! Not ever! I'll never be that desperate!

The other was, strangely enough, two offers from "Chase Ink", which is a BUSINESS card. Not only did I BK TWO Chase accounts (and they sued me and won a judgment against me), but I don't own a business.

Anyway, I want to make it clear that I don't WANT any credit cards. I just think that I must be seen as someone even the bk-friendly cards don't want.

I have, however, received several notices from car-financing companies.

Your BK filing is public information. Everyone who files and gets discharged receives offers because you are now debt free and cannot file BK again for another 8 years if one files a Chapter 7. Many creditors glean information from your credit reports for people that fall into certain "classes;" Those with bad credit and those in bankruptcy. Your name gets sold around and the offers start coming that contain high fees and high interest rates. Local creditors and car dealerships get your local public discharge information and send you all sorts of financing offers for those just out of BK. These offers can come for a while - we are over four years past a Chapter 13 discharge and our name is still out there on a few lists and we still get BK related junk mail come in. As I've stated on here before, once you file BK it never really goes away due to the mailing lists and all the public information out there that can be gleaned.

      Greetings Flamingo.

Yes I sure do like our host's attitude. She does not need the 'vice' that got her here. I like that a lot. We are debt free, and yes there are things we need right now, but not at the risk of indenturing us into servitude of another person/company.

      Great post. 'Hub

I'm right with you, Bankrupt. I keep reading on here about everyone getting all kinds of CC offers, particularly from Capital One. I have only received those crazy offers from First Premier. Not a one from anyone else. Nothing from Capitol One and I didn't even owe them anything. LOL. But that's okay. I am going to try for a Hooters card soon. If I get it, that's all I need for now. I don't really even want that but need to start rebuilding.

I really don't. I'm going to try to avoid credit cards as long as possible, because I USED to have a shopping addiction. (actually, it's like being an alcoholic, it's always there, lurking).

I just don't trust myself with credit cards.

What has surprised me is how FEW offers I've received. I'm really baffled about getting two Chase Ink (business card) offers, since I bk'd two fo their cards, don't have a business, and they sued me!

I know that I will need one eventually to build up my credit score, but for now I'm just fine with my trusty debit card .

Anyway, my choice of cards is limited, because I will NOT apply for a card I bk'd. And I bk'd most of them:

          Capital One
Chase (two cards, and they sued me and won a judgment)
          Orchard
          HSBC
          Home Depot
Macy's (I had 3 different accounts with them)
          Firestone (Credit First???)
          Credit One
          Bank of America
          Fortunoffs (World Bank???)

          and more!

          So there aren't many left!

I'm glad I paid off and closed my Target and Lord and Taylor accounts long before I filed bk!

I've learned my lesson! Really! I was a bad, bad girl. I was under a lot of stress, and I shopped to alleviate that stress, and look where it got me! More stress! Years of collection agencies and lawyers harrassing me, my credit ruined, and lawsuits and judgments. Never again!

Have you done any credit report clean up and seeing what things look like there? It is also possible to get a Capital One card after BKing them.

And for what its worth... I never get preapproval offers and I have plenty of new credit.

We got offers left and right starting about 30 days after we filed. The offers for credit cards, used cars, etc. poured in for about 2 months, but then basically stopped. We too get the ones from Chase Ink, but all of the others must have figured out that we're not getting on that bus again.

I haven't had my 341 yet, and already our mailbox has at least one offer from a car dealership practically everyday. I haven't heard anything from CC companies yet...oh well, when their offers arrive, they'll end up in the same place as the dealership offers...trash!

My offers took about 3 to 6mos to come, you will get some, just wait for the no monthly fee ones.

I checked my Experian report about 45 days after my discharge and much to my surprise everything seems to be reporting correctly. The strange thing is that on the legal page it mentions the discharged bankruptcy but not the judgment one creditor had against me. I'm certainly not going to dispute that!

I had a judgement as well and when I disputed it as "IIB" with Experian online, they removed the entire judgement within 24 hours. Would be great if the other bureaus would do that as well - that would save me the cost and hassle of getting it vacated.

It's just strange that it doesn't mention the judgment at all. I haven't checked the other two credit reports yet.

Does that mean that if I'm discharged it just would not appear? I thought that I needed a "vacate" order to do that.

When I called the court where the two lawsuits and judgment were filed, I was told simply to write them a letter and include my discharge notification, which I did. When I asked about a "vacating a judgment" order, they had no idea what I was talking about. Of course, I don't own a house or even a car, so I guess there are no liens against me, but what if I want to buy a car or a house in the future?

As of today, one of the other bureaus is reporting the judgement still as "open" (obviously, they didn't receive the discharge-info yet) but the other bureau is reporting it as "$0 - satisfied". I think that's how it's supposed to be. Let's see what my recent dispute is going to do.

Usually, vacating is the way to go in order to completely remove judgements from your report. I'm not surprised they never heard of that before because the majority of BK-filers either don't go the extra mile to vacate or simply don't know about it.
