Still in BK 13 -New Cell phone contracts - problems?

My BK 13 has 12 months to go and I've been on a prepaid plan for several years (before BK) because I simply don't use cell phones much. However, I'm thinking about going to cell only, probably an iphone, and getting rid of my landline next summer which will mean a 2-year minimum contract. My employer has an 15% employee discount with a national provider and a credit check may be involved.

What has been your experience with new cell contracts and has BK played a part in it? Thanks for any advice or experience.

I had the same issue. We cancelled our cell plan prior to filing due to trying to cut costs. We went to the end of the contract and just did not renew and got Trac phones for a few years. My employer offerred 15% discount to my line under their carrier, Verizon. I was terrified to apply. We waited until 2005 (we filed 4/02) and I bit the bullet and applied to see what would occur. I was approved for the plan and I took one of their familiy plans at that time for 3 lines (my line was discounted at 15%). I was elated but I believe that since Verizon was our house phone carrier (and still is), that is the reason for approval as we had never once been late on a house phone payment. We now have the entire Verizon FIOS plan which is bundled, including our cell phones.

I am in BK right now (discharged any day) and I got 2 phones on a Sprint plan about a month ago. My attorney told me that I could apply. If they gave it to me, no one was going to check or care. He said "you have to have a phone...". I was just told do not do anything pre 341 hearing...like NOTHING at all.

Thanks for your experiences - I didn't think about ATT being my home phone and internet provider. That might help when I apply. I'm not looking forward to having a contract but guess it comes with the newer phones and added features.
