    Checking credit during bankruptcy

In 60 day club (341 was 11/24/10) and switched cable services. As a new customer they said they had to run credit check to approve. A little concerned because I am in the middle of a bankruptcy. However, they came back approved. So what exactly are they checking for in a credit check?

Depends... most of the time they are looking to see if you have any bad debts with THEM. I signed up with DirectTV back in January and Verizon FIOS just a few weeks ago and they didn't bat an eyelash...but each company has different set of qualification criteria. I think cell phone services are usually a little more strict. They also don't want to see any outstanding judgements, liens or collections. So, if all accounts are reporting IIB and zero balances...then we don't really have any "outstanding debts".

We switched to DirectTV after our 341, but before discharge also. They said they were pulling a credit report, but signed us up with no problems. Also after our discharge I checked our credit reports, but they did not show any inquiries from the directtv.
