    Credit Monitoring Companies???

My wife and I filed Chapter 7 in April of 2009 and it was settled in August 2009. Since then, my wife has had numerous credit offers and acceptances but I have not even had one.

Is it possible that the bancruptcy hit me harder than my wife? Would it be worth my while to invest in credit couseling services such as Free Credit Report or Triple Advantage?

    Thanks!

First, if you are opted out and she is opted in...then she will get all the offers and you won't get any. Second, yes the bankruptcy can affect both of you differently. It depends greatly on what each credit report looked like before you filed and also how creditors are reporting your bankruptcy accounts. After discharge, you should have been monitoring both reports to clean up any errors and mistakes. It is extremely common for creditors to report bankruptcied accounts inaccurately. It is also possible for the same creditor that you shared a joint account with to report it one way on your report and one way on your wife's report.

You can always pull your credit reports from the free annual site. When you are disputing things on your credit, you need to make sure that you are referencing a report that comes directly from the credit bureau and that you request a hard copy of one. Only then will you see what is actually on the report. If you use any third party services, things can be interpreted differently depending on where you pull it from.
