Can You Opt Out of Credit Reporting All Together?

Hello - This is just a curious question as I'm not actually planning on doing this, but I was wondering, is it possible for someone to opt out of credit reporting, meaning telling the Experian, Transunion and Equifax that you want out of their system? Just curious...

I don't think you can prevent the 3 agencies from compiling information about you, but you can lock access or put a freeze on each of the credit reporting agencies.

My credit reports are frozen. In California it costs $10 per agency. It prevents them from selling your information to anyone, prevents crooks from opening up new accounts for themselves in your name, and no one can look at your credit report.

If you apply for a loan though, you'll have to lift the freeze ($10 each again) so the lender can look at the credit reports and they'll stay unfrozen until you pay to freeze them again.
