in the meantime she moves out of state...and rents and says...(be still my heart)...i think i will NEVER buy again...i'm saying excuse me??? you have two kids under 3...are you nuts...she said nope..i'm not wanting to pay for repairs and problems my entire life....when this lovely house i'm renting starts to fall apart ...i'll just move to another new house...

well...at least the 10's of thousands of dollars we spent on her undergrad and grad school may not have been totally wasted...i'm still not certain yet.
You see, I bought a home when I had just turned 20, but it was a high interest, no down mortgage with PMI. It about killed me and I sold the house 6 months later.

I'm odd, but the main reason I want to buy a house is so that my husband and I can fix it up and make it our own. I am a DIYer at heart and we are both very handy. I never again want to live in a place with all white walls.

Tobee - I'll have to check with our AAA to see, but I was told that the credit profiling didnt matter - our current policy is out of state with Erie (has been for years now), yet because they have servicers (agents) in-state, the profiling applied. This is according to our Dept. of Insurance (VA).
well....it won't hurt to call...maybe JUST maybe they can help save you some $...i hope!

she also brought her first house at 21....and also very handy with a hammer and nail...besides the fact that she watched her mommy cut her own rafters and laid them as well as doing all my own wood working etc.

i'd rather be barefoot and dirty...LOL!!! i don't really talk much about that lifetime on this forum...but i'm trying to get back to who i USED to be back then...taking off the suit and getting back into the earth and dirt and fun and sun...when we can.

YEOWCH! Holy crap! AAA's quote was $600 HIGHER than my current ins. company - and that was taking the limits down and deductibles UP! Good grief - and I thought I was paying alot with it going up since filing, guess I wont complain about $2K a year for full coverage with the highest limits on everything for 3 vehicles any longer LOL! Was only about $1600 or so before we filed and it went up.

Think I'll stay with Erie - but thanks for the suggestion Tobee

I posted this on another thread, but you are likely to pay higher insurance rates for years no matter the score. My insurance for my home is almost $4,000 per year. They used Katrina as an excuse even though they paid less than 10% of the claims during that time. In trying to get insurance for the last three years, I have been with three different companies.....this last one due to the BK. It's the state insurer of last resort because NO ONE in this area will write with a BK regardless of your score. Their guidelines are a number of years after the discharge not the score.

Ouch - 4K? Our Home Ins was around $800 - however it just jumped up to around $1100 since filing. We have pretty low Re. taxes here (thank god). Then again, our coverage is pretty high as far as damages, etc , with relatively low deductibles. I know it'll be high until we're discharged, but it shouldnt be any higher than what it is now *fingers crossed*

Okay - have the answer on the credit report thing from our lawyer for a Ch. 13 filer. He says the reports will not show a zero balance until the BK payments are completed, discharge order entered, and the case is closed. Says to wait about 6 months then pull all 3 reports to ensure all things are reported correctly. If not, then dispute them all - they have 30 days to investigate and respond.

So - there it is. Guess we'll have to wait 5 long years to get it done *sighs*. Oh well..could be worse.

I have to disagree LSU, I live in a state that bases insurance costs on credit scores and reports, and I had a very high rate right after I filed, but after I cleaned up my reports, got some positive trade lines and improved my scores, my renter's insurance cost has been cut in half for the same coverage. Higher scores do help.

Hey LSU - have you tried Erie insurance? In all the years we've had insurance (of any type) - they've always beat every other ins. company out there.

I can only speak of my personal experience......I did not mean to say it's like that everywhere. I do know for a fact though that there are some insurers that will not write for a period of time after a BK regardless of the score. Trust me, I went through about 8 of them. I do know it for a fact here in Louisiana!

Never heard of them. Not sure they write in South Louisiana, few companies do.

I believe you. In my experience, AAA gives great rates as long as you are a member.

AAA didnt give us a great rate today when I requested a quote...and we are members. I was shocked! $600 higher a year for vehicles than what we pay now, and I had to lower the limits and raise the deductibles else it would've been higher. That included a 10% discount if I rolled my homeowners into it.
