Banks do require some sort of request to close an account. If you just pull all the money out without letting them know you want to close the account, they can charge you monthly service fees drawing you into overdraft/negative balance, and then in turn charge you fees for being overdrawn. That in turn could get reported to Chexsystems and make getting an account in future more difficult.

Can they freeze my account? How do I actually close it? I dont remember the last time I ever closed a checking account. Just take out all the money? Do we have to sign something? Both of our names are on two checking accounts, not much money in either one mind you! My daughter has her own checking that I am just a signer on. Should she close hers too?
Yes... you need to get your name off your daughter's account, but you don't necessarily need to close it unless it is more convenient.
LOL - look at me.. on the bk forum for a few months and I am answering a question instead of asking.
I do want to piggy back on this though. My only problem with the small bank I moved to is that I know a lot of people who work there, even the President.
I taught his kids. None are close friends, but they know me well enough to know to ask about my family. Is there any way these people know I have a bankruptcy
on my records? I plan to just have a checking and hopefully soon a savings account there. No cards or loans.

I would not recommend opening with the same bank, if you included them in your CH 7. Reason being, you will be in their bad books for years to come. Therefore, why not open an account with a new bank and have a fresh start with them.
I now personally stay away from the large banks and prefer credit unions. My comments are solely based on my opinion. The information and links that I have
