    Credit is Gone! Why?

19 months ago we filed bankruptcy. Since then we have been working on building up our credit report and score. today I applied for an account with a propane gas company and they pulled my credit report and informed me that it states that there is NO CREDIT HISTORY FOUND!

They checked my SSN and ran it on both my former and current address and got the same thing. HOW COULD THIS BE? I HAVE BEEN VERY DILIGENT IN MAKING SURE THAT MY CREDIT GETS BACK TO RESPECTABLE LEVELS SO IN JANUARY WE CAN APPLY FOR A NEW MORTGAGE.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You mention you've been working for 19 months to rebuild your credit. Have you been monitoring your progress through the credit agencies?

Yes, at our 1 year out point we checked our credit reports and they where as to be expected. We where going to check again in January when we could get our next free copy. Oddly enough, my scory was 640 at that time.

It would seem that your gas company may be making some sort of mistake since you know for sure by your monitoring that you indeed have a credit history. Maybe ask them (gas company) what criteria they used and who they used to get your information.

BTW, thank you for your help jlmaca. I'll call them tomorrow and ask them about their procedure for pulling a credit report, but I kinda think that they may not be the problem. The sequence of events went like this. They ran my credit and got the first no credit history. As they where calling me to verify my information, they ran another and it came back normal. They while I was on the phone with them, they ran mine again and got the same no credit history available. So... this is puzzling to me.

I think what I might try is asking my landlord to run it for me and pay them for it, I also have the Mortgage company that we are going to work with in January that may do that too. I'll call them tomorrow also.

I just hope it was a "glitch" or something because I don't now where I would start to fix it.

In your efforts to rebuild your credit, you didn't by any accidental or on purpose method put locks on your credit reports did you? If all your reports are locked (which means nobody can inquire on them) then perhaps that would cause the problem?

Just throwing it out there as a possibility since you haven't found a solution.

I don't have locks on either Equifax or Experian and up to two months ago showed, now neither is now showing as having a credit report in my name? Only TransUnion shows... and Equifax and Experian cannot even give a reason why they don't have a report in my name. Anybody else have this issue and what can you do?

Sounds to me that information isn't being put into the bureaus correctly when trying to pull the report. Even if you weren't attempting to improve your score, the BK should still show on the report for seven to ten years. Being you are showing no history means in the bureaus eyes you never filed BK.

Talk to the propane company and see what they will do for you with out a credit history. It is a possibility that they could do a manual underwriting.

It is not uncommon for people not to have a credit history. People that don't use debt don't have credit histories. There are very successful people worth over $1 million, with paid for houses that don't have credit histories because they don't borrow money.

This could also mean that you have a split file. This can happen sometimes when people check their credit every day using a credit monitoring service, etc. It is a pain to put back together. You have to call the credit bureau and work with them to piece it back together.

I believe you probably have been disputing most, if not all, items on your credit reports. When items are in dispute, they are temporarily removed from your credit reports. Just call the CRA involved and express your concerns.

Well I understand if you never had a credit report because you always paid cash, but I had credit reports a few months ago with Equifax and Experian, now they say I have no report, even in True Credit Report and myFICO??? The only report that comes up is TransUnion... I guess I can only apply for credit that uses TransUnion. Oh, well got my car loan and nothing more for a few yea, hopefully this gets fixed!

I had a similiar thing happen to me. I applied for a store card and was denied the response they gave was the same "no credit history"..it was my Experian that they pulled. I thought that was weird being that I do have new credit (since BK). The store said I needed to contact Experian to find out what's going on.
