Credit union checking/savings approved...

Hello all,
I am amazed Me and my husband was able to get a acct with the federal credit union. They were at my job so I figured why not try. The girl accepted and is sending out of debit visa cards. This does not help out credit does it? I am not sure ? I just figure it is a start in the right direction maybe if we show good balances it may help in the future.

Yes it will help your credit if you have overdraft protection. This shows on your credit report as an unsecured line of credit.

I've never seen my overdraft protection show up on my credit report. The checking account is linked to the savings account. Is there another type of overdraft protection where you don't have to have money in a savings account? That would definitely be an unsecured line of credit, but if it's linked to your savings, it's secured.

yes only the unsecured overdraft LOC will report to the credit agencies.

just having a debit atm card with a vias logo means nothing and wont get reported at all. lots of people think it will but it doesnt.

after having the account for few months maybe go and try to get a LOC for over draft protection.
