    Closed vs. Discharged...What's the difference...

I'm discharged but I still owe my lawyer a couple of hundred dollars which I plan to pay in a couple of weeks. I'm discharged but everybody's talking about closed. What's the difference?
    Filed: 11/9/09 341 Meeting:12/21/09 No assets! Discharged: 5/24/10
    10/2010:EQUIFAX: 589, TRANSUNION: 644, EXPERIAN: 591

Every case is eventually closed. Where the 'big deal' is is if you were an asset case or a no-asset case.

If you're no-asset, the discharge is pretty much all you need to care about. The closed part will come when all the filing at the court has been done.

If you're asset, the discharge is one thing, but the closed doesn't usually come until all of the non-exempt assets have been sold / taken care of. Once completed then usually the case will close.

Here's an excellent explanation (thanks to BlueJeans for posting it to my thread on this topic)!
