    Credit score after BK?

Just from looking around, it looks like some folk's had their scores go up after BK. Mine is probably in the high 500's to low 600's now, and I am still debating to file. How bad does bankruptcy really tank your score. It seems that people are able to get credit immediately after discharge.

Is it really that easy? I would be filling solely for the benefit of getting all this medical debt erased. I feel "safe" having a few cards for emergencies. This would ease some of my fears.

I have accounts now with cap one. How likely are you to get credit again through someone included in the BK?

    Just curious...

    Thanks

If one of your objections to filing BK is the credit impact, then you are simply in denial of your financial circumstances and nothing anyone here can say is going to change that. You don't have credit now.

If your scores are already high 5's low 6's, why do you even care? The reality is, your score will probably not move (up or down) as a result of the BK.

Most people will begin receiving credit card offers within 3-6 months of filing BK. Most peoples credit will fully recovery withing about 2 years assuming they take some steps to make sure everything is reported properly on their credit report and initiate some credit usage after BK (i.e. get a small balance credit card, charge $50, and pay it off each month, etc).

Mine has gone up since filing and discharge in February (see signature below)! I have two new credit cards and have just been approved for a $24,000 car loan all within 3 months of discharge. I will not be applying for anything else over the next two years, but plan on saving up for a down payment for a house, paying off the car. Anybody can increase their credit scores after BK, its learning from your previous mistakes, paying off your credit card balances monthly, or keeping a very small balance, using and applying for credit wisely, and making sure your credit files are all correct and reporting correctly.
