I am not sure what there is out there that you NEED a credit card for. I haven't had one now in almost 2 years and I not had the first issue. As far as everyone cares now, a debit card is just as good. Hotels, car rentals, no issues whatsoever.
LOL yes indeed... but other people asking these questions may not have seen our other posts!

What do I need credit for? My car insurance rates... my federal job that requires me to have good credit (and I have been placed on review for my "bankruptcy status")... my husband and I buying a home in a few years (and no I will not be saving up 200k to pay cash for one, no retorts plz ;).

So, while your opinion does not see a need for yourself (and I know a lot of other people here agree with you too!), a lot of us do see a need. And we are all really super thrilled you haven't ran into a situation of needing credit (no sarcasm intended, really). I wish I could do the same.

I disagree with this statement. Only certain rental car companies will rent with a debit card, other accept a debit card with an additional premium and/or deposit. If you don't have a major CC, you lose any extra protection the CC might offer.

Hotels are similar. No CC then they hold a rather large deposit to cover incidentals. That deposit is usually released after about 7 days from check out. Not everyone has that extra money set aside for that nor should they be required to.

Sure you can just shop at the companies that will accept just s debit card, however most likely you won't be getting the best rate either. Sometimes convenience is a necessary evil and sometimes that warrants credit.

You hit the nail on the head, use those rental car companies that do accept it. As far as the hotels, I have NEVER had that issue......ever. I stay at Disney and Mariott primarily but I stayed in two different hotels in Miami recently and never had that issue at all.

Now a credit card is necessary to save money on a rental car. Oh boy.
