Just Discharged, have not closed case, but here is what I've done, this might help

After browsing this forum, it helped me to get a few things going. FYI I pulled my report from annualcreditreport.com last september, so I do not qualify for it now.

#1 Applied for and Approved for Best Buy / HSBC Unsecured CC with $300 balance

#2 Opened a Savings Account with Local Credit Union

#3 Approved for Secured Share Loan for $500 (deposit $550, get $500 back instantly) with #2 (1 year Loan)

#4 Pre-Approved for Secured CD Loan (When I have the $1000) with #2 (1 year Loan)

#5 Pre-Approved for Secured Credit Card (in 6 months) with #2

#6 Pre-Approved for Secured CD Loan ($300) with USAA (Anyone who is military or military family is qualified) (1 year Loan)

#7 Got 3 Credit Reports with Credit Scores for $15 and Credit Monitoring for $7.50/month with freecreditreport.com

Here is how I got #7 for so cheap.
    a) Sign up with FreeCreditReport.com for $14.99/month and get a free Experian Credit Report, and a 7 day free trial (cancel any time)
    b) Call their 1-800 number and ask for the 3 Credit Reports with 3 Scores phone special (each time you ask for this, its a one time deal for $15 only over the phone) (this is not unilimited, it is $15/3reports)
    c) Call their 1-800 number again and tell them $14.99/month is too expensive, you thought it was for unlimited reports for all 3 bureaus per month, and they will offer to cut it in half for you ($7.49/month) for 12 months.

Now you have all 3 credit reports with scores for $15, unlimited credit monitoring for $7.50/month (for the first 12 months, $15/month thereafter, unless you call back to cancel I'm sure) and unlimited credit reports with Experian while you have the subscription.

Sounds to me like you'll be paying interest on personal loans.

If you have a costco membership you can get credit monitoring and once a month credit reports (all 3) for $7.95.

I do not have a Costco Membership, and the nearest Costco is 75 miles away.

I will be paying 3% interest annually, except that the monthly total is reduced by 1/12th every month. So it comes out to $10 for the $500 loan.

Freecreditreport.com is a rip-off, IMO. There are muchhhhhh better credit monitoring sites out there that won't charge you an arm and a leg --- plus those are not true FICO scores that you are getting from them --- they are FAKO scores.

I get free credit (one report, not all 3) from my AAA Premium membership - or my "I'm an idiot because I locked my keys in my car, stop laughing at me, dammit" insurance. I also have the option of getting credit monitoring from my credit union at a reduced rate of $3.95/mo ($8.95 without the direct deposit).

When I originally posted this, I did not mention Orchard Bank because it had not been approved, but I just received word of approval today.

So Orchard Bank Unsecured CC and Best Buy Reward Zone CC were approved for $300 each

I just wanted to post an update.
Its been 7 months since my last post.
I just checked my Experian credit report (using everything I've stated above).
My credit score is now JUST below 700, so it looks like things are going well.
I plan to renew all secured loans and lines of secured credit at the 1 year mark, as well as apply for more unsecured loans and lines of credit.

My clothes dryer recently died, and after reading about how people just discharged applied for and was approved for credit cards, I applied for a Best Buy card but was denied. My chapter 13 was discharged July of this year. I don't understand how so many people are getting approvals right after or before being discharged. Can someone shed some light on this for me?
