Here's a little history: I had about 5 accounts with balances and just recently got discharged. My credit report showed each of the accounts with balances before bankruptcy and late payments.
Last month I sent over my letter of discharge to transunion along with the list of creditors and a letter asking them to remove the balances. They refused. Aren't the balances supposed to show 0, now that they are discharged?
Here is an excerpt from the letter:
"Please note, balances on accounts that were included in Bankruptcy, ARE NOT REMOVED from the credit report. This shows the amount owing at the time the Bankruptcy was filed. Although the bankruptcy narrative may affect your ability to obtain future credit, the balances do not.
We have investigated your concern and based on these findings, it our understanding that the time frame within which it is permissible to retain a record of this information has not yet expired."
