    Old & New Credit

After our BK, I went through all our credit cards that were not IIB and had zero balances to see where they stood.

A Dell card in my name is still open, and a Kohl's in my wifes name is still open with a $1,500.00 credit line. We used that one(hesitantly, didn't want to try and it be closed at the register) on Saturday for $25.00 and it worked.

We have been getting the usual litany of CC offers, but the rates and terms are such we pass on each one.

With the exception of Capitol One. I got an offer for no annual fee, zero interest until May '10 and 19%(I think) interest thereafter. With enrollment in CreditSteps also. The credit limit was no great shakes, $500.00 but I figure with due diligence it will take care of itself. Lord knows that Chase card with a $10,000.00 credit limit is what helped me get where I was.

Just putting this out for others to see. Oh, BTW my credit score was 593 according to my mortgage officer on 1/15/10.

It's not unheard of that CC's survive the BK and the creditor leaves the account open and active. Just keep an eye on the accounts. If you still have online access to the accounts, you should be able to monitor the accounts.

I had my Nordstroms and Bloomingdales survive, but like others have said it could be closed at anytime once they pull a CR and see the Bk on the report. I did use the Nordies for clothes after my discharge and have already paid it off and just received the bill and it shows $0 balance and a $250 CL increase! Way to go Nordstrom... now if I could only get one of their Visa cards? Just kidding maybe in a year after my new Best BuyRZ MC has some history... welcome to your new start!

You can have accounts survive BK and find out a few months to a few years later that they have been closed. We had a Dress Barn charge survive our filing and stayed open for years with credit increases and used occassionally to keep the card open. Went to use it in the fall of 2008 (two years after discharge) and was told it was closed due to "a bk on my credit report." Goes to show ya... And our BK came off our records in 4/09 and in their response to my inquiry about the situation they told me to reapply after the BK was off our reports. I never reapplied....

A lot of store cards to not do soft pulls or account reviews the way that the bank cards do, so they may not find out about the bk on your report for a long time, if ever.
