Is there any way to fix hard inquiries?

I'm about to be discharged and I have pulled a copy of my credit report. I need to find out if there is any way to remove the hard inquiries that I didn't authorize?

Over the last two years, I stopped having contact with my creditors since I got tired of them calling all the time so I simply stopped all communications with them. Consequently they made dozens of hard inquiries that are now on my credit reports. Is there any way to get these removed, or did I "give" them permission since I had an open account with them and they could make the inquiries anytime they wanted to?

I would appreciate an answer to this since one collection agency did this as late as last month after they were notified of my BK, and I'm just waiting to contact them about this after my discharge is granted.

in most credit agreements the companies reserve the right to pull your credit.

So i doubt that you will be able to get these removed.

If it was an inquiry done by someone you don't have any credit with- you can dispute it though

As jribe explained, when you agreed to the terms of your credit agreement somewhere in all that fine print you agreed to allow that creditor to pull your credit reports whenever they feel they have a need and as long as you have credit with that creditor; i.e., late or no payment received, to up your credit limit, etc., etc. You cannot get hard inquiries removed unless one is a duplicate or you did not agree to any creditor pulling your credit reports (i.e., you always have to sign something and provide your SS# for a creditor to pull your credit report).

Inquiries are such a pain in the behind. I had a company do that to me once, and I disputed with them, and they said they "had no record of it" there fore could not remove it! Well DOH! If you have no record of it, is because you weren't supposed to have your fingers in there in the first place! I hate credit reports.

So does it matter that the collection agency keeps doing it after it the Bk has been filed? I never signed anything with them, but I did with the company they are working for (I think, I haven't read the fine print yet.) can the collection agency keep doing this even after the discharge goes through?

Somebody else just posted in another thread that they sent a CA a letter showing the original debt included in BK and highlighted it. I would guess that they are in violation of ... I dunno... FCRA? Or violating the stay? I'm not sure. But you might want to look into that further.

Someone I am sure knows more about this and correct me if I am wrong but from what I understand of the situaiton is a collection agency working for a creditor and just pulling a credit report after the filing of a BK in which the creditor is listed is not violating the stay; they would have to attempt to collect funds from you to violate the stay. I don't think there is anything you can do. I wouldn't worry too much about the hard pulls as they will eventually stop; they only appear for two years while your BK will be on your credit report 10 years if a Chapter 7, 7 years if a Chapter 13.

Are you certain these are hard pulls and not soft pulls?

The OC and CA's can do soft pulls to monitor your credit per their credit agreements, but they can not continue to make hard pulls throughout your relationship with them.

Hard pulls are inquiries you initiate for additional credit and will fall off after two years.

Soft pulls are credit inquiries that show on your report to YOU, but do not show to others. These include inquires for existing creditors (unless you specifically request additional credit, including credit line increases). Soft pulls also include inquiries that meet certain marketing critieria, commonly labeled "Promo". When you pull your own credit it is considered a soft pull.
