I just got my Cap1 card today with a $300 limit. I just passed my 1 year anniversary of my discharge. This is actually my first credit card - ever. I'm only planning on using it for my automatic payment of my phone/internet/dish bundle that can be paid off every month. I guess it's good that I already know how much financial do-do we can get into without credit cards so I know better than to abuse one!

So this was weird; I tried use this new card for my automatic payment on my phone bill and it was declined. I thought maybe I should see if I could use it for something else today, declined. I called customer service to ask if there's a problem and they told me that when I tried to use the card it sent an alert to the fraud department and they suspended the account. Huh? It was my first time using a brand new card, and I had called in and given all kinds of information to activate it beforehand. So they wanted some "additional documents" to verify my identiy such as pay stubs, drivers license and bank statement.
Shouldn't they have asked for that before issuing a credit card?
Did anyone else have this problem with their Cap 1 CC?12/05/08 - filed pro se

That's strange. Were you able to clear up the issue. Sounds like some signals got crossed but they definitely should have asked for all that prior to issuing the card.

They took the suspension off the same day that I faxed the documents. They should've asked for those before issuing the card and I think the "fraud alert" was just their way of getting around to asking for proof of income and identity. That's fine with me because I was honest with my application.
Their customer service is rude though, right from the getgo. I was friendly and actually laughing a little over the irony of their actions and the woman never let up. Had an attitude like I was a criminal the entire time.12/05/08 - filed pro se

That's pretty bizarre. Don't take the customer service personal. I've had pleasant people when I called. She probably was just being ugly by nature. Good you resolved the issue.
