I need some solid answers please

I was discharged on 09/17/2009 and I need to rebuild my credit. I did not discharge on any credit cards just my home, medical and HOA. I have not had a credit card in many years. My house is not reporting as IIB it is saying paying as agreed even though I included it. I am so scared to apply for a credit card. I had been denied for years and this is really my fresh start. What type of scores do I need to have. I keep hearing about all the offers people are getting in the mail and I have not received any just for car loans. So any help would be great.

We got approved for the first 2 that we applied for. We went for a Capital One card and Hooters Mastercard. We pay them off in full at the end of every month.
4/09 Converted to a Ch 7 due to loss in dh's income
5/09 UST now involved no idea what happens next
7/09 UST has decided to withdraw his motion to dismiss!
    7/27/09 DISCHARGED!!!

by the way I tried capitol 1 and orchard bank the only thing orchard would give me was a secure card. I am going to give up I don't want to many inquiries hurting my already poor damaged unforgivable credit rating.

So, lbroussard25, I am certainly biased, so beware of what I say. Why do you need credit? What got you where you are today? The Mrs. and I never have looked at our credit after bk and we once had a personal worth of over 10mil and we had 820 score. We don't need "no schtinking credit cards". We will purchase what we need (not want) on a cash basis. We once were, if you wish it, get it people. Not now. Our life has increased into a wonderful gift. We are pleased with what we have and not what we want.

You must learn this. Stop your worry about credit. Time will heal it. Get what you need on what you have and not what you wish to mortgage your future monies on.

I hope you "get it". Love in God to you. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

          Not to disagree... but

I'd usually never disagree with AngelinaCat or 'Hub, BUT, cash only in todays financial world doesn't really work. Here's what I've seen recently...

Unfortunately during our Chapter 7 BK, we surrendered our house. We would someday in a few years like to be able to buy again. Hence, credit scores come into play.

I've been monitoring our credit history and scores for several years long before I got into financial trouble due to my business. Our scores took major hits during the BK, dropping from high 700's to low 600's.

We were discharged in January this year (2009), we had not applied for any type of credit cards, etc. even though we wanted to rebuild our scores... my wifes scores had been coming up faster than mine... she was back to high 600's, then it happened last week...

Her score took a 27 point drop... the reason, lack or revolving credit. Yep, because she DIDN'T have credit cards, her score took a pretty big hit.

I had been waiting for applying for cards as I had many inquiries about 2 years ago, when I was trying to get loans for my business (Which ultimately failed as I couldn't obtain financing when I needed it most) I wanted those oldest inquiries to drop off.

Well... now I am going to apply at a couple places we had gotten applications from in the mail.

I have no desire to get into any type of CC debt (We were very responsible prior to needing to use CC's for business expenses) but it appears if we ever want to buy a home again... we'll have to get a couple CC's, use and pay them timely to get those scores up.

Sorry for the book... but that's my .02
