Can I apply for same credit if i am already an authorized user?

Hi guys, Im just about a month post-bankruptcy discharge, and I was curious to know a definitive answer to this question:

My dad added me as an authorized user to his Capital One CC ($300 initial limit) about 2 months back. Now say I wanted to get my OWN card and apply online for it myself...do you believe I would get approved? Or do I need to take myself off as an authorized user of my dad's card before I do apply (and hopefully approved)?

    I would appreciate your responses!

I stand by the same answer I gave you in this thread...
Can you be approved for a Credit Card...

It shouldn't matter if you are already an authorized user on someone else's account. That's not your debt; it's theirs.

So cupcake, are you saying that I SHOULD go ahead and apply for my OWN Capital One card? I just didn't want me being an authorized user on someone else's card to be a reason to NOT approve me (essentially Capital One saying, "you already have a card in your name from us, we can't give you another one.")

Yes, if you want your own CapOne card, then you should go ahead and apply. You wouldn't be denied for the sole reason that you are an authorized user on someone else's account because you really don't have already have a card in your name from them.

But, like I said in the other thread, be careful about applying for so much new credit in a short time. It's possible that you could be denied by CapOne just for that reason alone.

This rebuilding credit process really sucks. You need credit to rebuild, but too much new credit hurts you. It's really a tough situation to be in. Personally, I am going to just keep the cards I have as I don't need any more CCs, and try to apply for a savings secured installment loan (or whatever you call it).
