Last Post.Life after BK is great.Good Luck to ALL!!

I am approaching 2 years after my discharge and it is time for me to move on from this message board since my life has moved on from my BK.

I want to pass along that Life after BK has been UNBELIEVABLE. I entered BK due to many layoffs over the years and a divorce. When I decided to declare BK I was recently laid off but had a new job waiting in the wings. I had a plan to get through my BK and start a NEW life within 2 years.

The day after discharge I received my first credit card and I strategically applied for more credit and today I have all the credit I will ever need (four credit cards with $7k, 4K, 3.5K and 1.1K limits)

I also cut my costs down to nothing while I started my new job which allowed me to save half my income over a 2 year period.

I have also put an offer on a house and have been pre-approved for a mortgage prior to my 2 years out of BK. I most likely won't close until after my 2 year point due to the snail pace of a short sale but just 2 short years after BK I will have a mortgage.

I am tired of people on this board insinuating that we are second class citizens and scaring people into believing that BK will affect them for 10 years. Everyone here needs to clean up their financial lives and once you do you will get respect with regards to credit.

When I apply for credit I look at it as if I'm a lender. Ask yourself if you would lend yourself money? If the answer is yes you should move forward with confidence and not be afraid of credit but use it as a tool.

    Good luck to everyone!!!!

We will miss you, Logan. Farewell and enjoy your new life. BTW, no one intentionally scares someone and as to second class citizens, we are addressing our problems realistically as you did two years ago. God does not make second class humans. We are all of good quality, but as human we do make mistakes.

You are proof that others here need to see, that you can again, get on your feet and succeed. GBWY 'Hub

Me too. I had a messy case because I have a large income but court ordered child support and alimony make me a low income person. I have no assets and easily supported with documentation (I have never disposed of a single receipt in my life...yes, I still have every receipt I have ever gotten since I was in high school). So I made a couple thousand copies and sent to the UST. They were furious at my attorney but after reviewing cases of paperwork ruled no abuse. Discharge came and case closed within a month of the original planned time frame.

So now I want to rebuild my financial life. I struggle with money and yet I cannot understand why. I used to live well beyond my means but now post BK, I won't do that anymore but wonder why I live check to ckeck and wonder how I will ever save anything. I know after several years when support payments drop off I will be comfortable but it is going to be lean til then.

I will say that the BK took away pressures because it confirmed what I already knew; I could not make any credit card payments. Now I don't have them and I am surviving. I learned my lesson.

            Good luck to everyone.
