I am approaching 2 years after my discharge and it is time for me to move on from this message board since my life has moved on from my BK.
I want to pass along that Life after BK has been UNBELIEVABLE. I entered BK due to many layoffs over the years and a divorce. When I decided to declare BK I was recently laid off but had a new job waiting in the wings. I had a plan to get through my BK and start a NEW life within 2 years.
The day after discharge I received my first credit card and I strategically applied for more credit and today I have all the credit I will ever need (four credit cards with $7k, 4K, 3.5K and 1.1K limits)
I also cut my costs down to nothing while I started my new job which allowed me to save half my income over a 2 year period.
I have also put an offer on a house and have been pre-approved for a mortgage prior to my 2 years out of BK. I most likely won't close until after my 2 year point due to the snail pace of a short sale but just 2 short years after BK I will have a mortgage.
I am tired of people on this board insinuating that we are second class citizens and scaring people into believing that BK will affect them for 10 years. Everyone here needs to clean up their financial lives and once you do you will get respect with regards to credit.
When I apply for credit I look at it as if I'm a lender. Ask yourself if you would lend yourself money? If the answer is yes you should move forward with confidence and not be afraid of credit but use it as a tool.
Good luck to everyone!!!!
