Where to start to rebuild credit?

After Chp. 7 Discharge, what are the best places to go to start building credit?

Seems many of the threads here are a year or so old so thought we could start an update. - jb

A good start is to order your free annual credit reports from all three bureaus. Make sure everything that was included in the BK is listed as IIB with a zero balance. If anything is listed incorrectly, dispute it. If you have things in collections, a lot of them will probably drop off automatically. If they don't, dispute them as "no longer liable."

I have had good success thus far cleaning up my reports and raising my scores. I have a thread about it if you want to check it out. I have established 3 new TLs plus I have my existing student loans reporting positive.

        Tks - I appreciate it.

According to Credit Karma, which I don't put much credit in, my score is 695 4 days after I was discharged. The last time I check, they were off more than 100 pts.

Where is the best place to get a CCard to start building with? First Premier sent me one - almost $300.00 in up front fees. - jb

Jeb stay away from credit cards that charge you fees. You just got discharged, give it a little time. You'll get tons of offers in the mail. The longer you wait the better the offers get. I got a card with HSBC and Capital One. Both had no fees and a low interest rate. Use this time to get used to not having a credit card.

I'm no where near discharge but I keep wondering who would ever give me a credit card again? lol I am including Chase, Capital One, Discover, Citibank, WFF Nat Bank and a couple others in my bankruptcy... that's like all the major credit cards... lol. I guess there are other smaller unheard of places out there that do cards as well? Starting to think I may not want any more anyways...

Amy26, I have heard that companies like Capital One and HSBC are BK friendly. American Express, Discover, not so much. But all credit given is on a case by case basis so who knows......

Tks all - I have not charged anything on a CC in a very long time - been using my debit card - but understand one needs to create lines of credit that are shown paid as agreed to build credit score again.

At this point in time I don't see my needing to purchase anything that needs to be financed but may in the future. - jb
