I need to be a new fridge, and need to know who may approve me.

I need to get a new fridge but I don't have the cash. I was thinking about trying to get one on credit but I don't know who would approve me. Since my BK discharged in June I have an Orchard card that I have paid on time every month and a Hooters card that I have never used. The credit limits that I have on these cards are not enough to purchase a fridge.

There is one that I really liked at Lowes but I have heard that they are not BK friendly. Are there any other places?

    Please help

Why not consider a used one? I went to a flea market yesterday with DW and saw about five in fairly good shape. Plug them in make sure they cool. How old is the old one. They can be fixed you know.

Many Goodwill stores get these. $50 bucks or so and you can negotiate them down sometimes. I purchased a nearly new looking one for $100.00 and it is still in service after four years. 'Hub

Hub has a point. Especially now with all of the foreclosures - many people are selling their newer appliances for next to nothing! Look at CraigsList.

Lowe's is not BK friendly - I think they are under GE Money Bank but not certain. StartingOver suggested what was on my mind - Craig's list - since many folks move and don't want to take appliances with them, divorce, etc. You might find something temporary until you can get a Home Depot or Lowe's card again. Keep paying those others cards on time, more than minimum payments or pay them in full each time. Don't be late on anything and it will all work to your advantage but it does take a little time.

My fridge died twice this past winter, we were able to get it fixed for $75 bucks the first time the second time it was the same part so it was a free fix. Before we knew how much it would cost to fix we looked on craigs list and found some AMAZING deals. I saw a stainless steel fridge for $200 bucks.

Yes, Lowe's is using GE Money. They call me on a regular basis to ask when I'm paying my card.

If all else fails, maybe rent one until you can save up. Just a tip.

I would *not* put one on credit. That's just how it starts all over again. Next thing you know you think "oh my stove is outdated... I should just replace that while I'm at it as well". Next it's a vacuum because "we neeeeeed a vacuum and we might as well get one that's good". lol

                Used. Craigslist.

Flamingo is correct that Lowe's is serviced by GE Money. Planned to pay that account off since we love Lowe's. Found out it was GE Money so we included it in the bk.

The advice for using Craigslist is excellent. Right now with all the foreclosures CL has a ton of barely used appliances being sold out of houses going into foreclosure. Usually the ads will tell you that everything is 1-2-3 years old etc. Often you can buy whole kitchens worth of matching appliances if you so desire. The prices are incredible. People who post the ads need the money and since the appliances are fairly new I consider it a win/win for both parties. So definitely check out CL for that refrigerator.

What would you use credit for, then? To me, this is EXACTLY the correct use of credit: buying a necessary item which life span likely will outlast the debt!
Using credit for fuel, utilities and groceries is foolish. Using it for housing, automobiles -- and, yes, refrigerators -- is what credit is designed for.
