How to get a statement included in your report?

We had an illness that led to the close of our family owned business. Our credit scores were perfect for 25 years then illness and income loss and now hopefully back on track. Iwould like to amke a statement in my credit report how do I go about doing that? Thanks.

Of all the research I have done I have never seen one good reason or postive outcome of a personal statement.....

I would simply make sure the report is correct and then when and if you apply for credit, then explain it at that time.

While it may not help it does give one peace of mind knowing that it is possible a creditor or future employer searching your credit reports will read it. We have had a statement as to our filing in our reports since 2003 just briefly stating we could not recover from a 70% loss of income in early 2001 after my hubby's attempt for one year after that job loss, we had no choice but to file Chapter 13 paying our creditors back 64% of the debt owed and 100% to secured, with a lead in paragraph that in the event this is read it will hopefully give an explanation for the BK on our records. We will remove that statement (on all 3 credit reports) this time next year when it will be 7 years from our filing date in April 2002. We have only been denied credit once since our discharge so we don't know if that paragraph helps or not but we do have scores in the mid 700's now. The denying creditor was Kohl's - we did have Chase in our filing which is associated with Kohl's.
