Just trying to get an idea for a feasible goal. Mine was 481 when we filed, it's 607 now and we aren't even discharged yet. I'm hoping to get it in the 700 range by my 1 yr anniversary. Impossible? Realisitic? Just curious.

This all depends on what someones score was BEFORE they filed. Not all scores tank due to bankruptcy. Mine only dropped 35 points. The better someones credit history was before filing will make a huge difference in what it looks like after discharge. If someones scores were below 600 for years and years it will be harder to hit 700, if ever. But someone that has a good history will top 700 much easier and quicker.

Oh well, aside from another home, I really can't see what we'll need plastic for in the future, except for small stuff, specifically charged to it to build the credit back up (if needed).Filed Ch 7: 12/27/07

I have a credit history 11 years long and until 2 years ago it was always 700+, so that's why I'm hoping to get it up there.
It doesn't HAVE to be done in a year - honestly, I only want decent scores so that when we are ready to buy a house again our scores don't hurt us with rates. It will be 5 years before we buy more than likely, so I have plenty of time... I was just curious.

Depends on a few issues....
Whether you have a few credit cards, auto loan, etc. after discharge
The age of your oldest item and the avg. age of all items on your credit report
Of course, perfect credit history is a must
I just ran EX yesterday, and 9 months out of bk I am at 689. Hoping to hit 700 by the 1 year mark.
But, as was stated earlier, it does not have to be done in 1 year. I hear the 2 year mark is another big milestone for score increase.
The important thing is to put as much time between the bad and establish as much good history as you can....Filed Business Chapter 7: 7/11/07

I'm sure this has been answered here a load of times......but........is the two year milestone based on when you file or is it based on when you were discharged ?
Thanks

Even my mother...who has NEVER (when I say never, I mean clean as a whistle!!) been late on anything...has a mortgage that she paid off approx. 5 years ago after 30 years......has had her same credit card with a 15,000 limit that she pays in full each months for 10+ years. She probably applies for one or two things every couple of years only...and does not have any store credit cards except for Sears and JC Penney..
She has lived at the same address for 40 years and has had the same employer for 20. Her debt to income ratio is very low as the only debt they have is their Tahoe.
You name anything that you can that would give someone a high score and she has it! But her score is only 730...she just checked it the other day for the heck of it.
So I don't really know what one would do to get their score higher? My friend that is a mortgage broker said he has only see score greater than 800 one or two times in the last 10 years.Chapter 7 Pro Se....Discharged Feb. 2006
