It is too bad that you are so hostile towards those of us that filed bk. I was offered no annual fee cards shortly after being discharged and, yes, Crap1 was one who offered it to me. Nowhere did it have those kind of terms.

Filing BK is not a terminal disease and it disappoints me to hear anyone suggest that we are so very lucky to get even one offer of credit after discharge.
I won't continue to debate this with you or anyone else. The botton line is there aren't and free luches in this world. If someone doesn't like whats on the menu then they can go eat at another establishment. It doesn't mean the restaurant sucks, although some would scream it does.

As far as being disappointed to hear anyone suggest that we are so very lucky to get even one offer of credit after discharge, try calling the banks and see just how many will NOT give someone an unsecured card.

Best of luck to you in your credit rebuilding journey.

Oh my! Where's the referee??? Time out!

Thanks for your responses. Hopefully CapOne or Crap1 treats me right in my experience with them. I do plan to keep at least one of my bills on an automated payment with them, so that the card will always be in use and paid off each month. So hopefully I won't have to worry about any surprise charges.

        My point is simply this:

There are plenty of opportunities for credit offers just after discharge. Do NOT let anyone tell you otherwise.

And any creditor who changes terms on you after the fact deserves to be called "Crapital One".

Fair enough. In your next post please list all your references so we can explore these offers. The name of these banks making the offerings to newly discharged folks would be great. I'm sure everyone here, including myself, would like to know who these banks are, or where the offers are coming from. Thanks, and can't wait to start calling these banks.

I agree with the OP. They have no real right (I'm not sure if it's a legal right or not - I have my doubts; but it certainly isn't a reasonable policy) to charge the cardholder a $39 fee just because he uses his credit responsibly and does not need to charge anything on the card.

If my credit card did that I also would call them "Crap" and close my account.

I got a medical loan through them for $15,500. I defaulted after only a few months b/c we realized that we were living off credit cards to make our bills each month. 2 years later, I have never gotten even one call or letter from them except to offer me more credit. They wrote me off but have left me alone. I've never even heard from an agency on the debt. We are filing ch 7 this week, and they are included.

This is so poignant. I personally would gladly pay such a fee to have a chance to have an open account reported on my credit report and never having to charge on it. Paying for lunch only seems fair after bk. They are taking a risk. And, they have to make their money some how.

So true. To think that a bank would offer credit to folks and not make a dime is unrealistic. It may happen in some cases, and if it does one should consider themself fortunate. Other banks may not charge an outright annual fee but may make up for it by charging .5 or .75 extra in their interest rates. So, someone thinks they're getting a great deal because there's no annual fee but they are paying more than the fee with the little higher rate, and never realize it. Let's face it, it doesn't take much interest to make up a measley $39 a year fee.

I don't like Cap1 because they don't report the correct CL.

JP - Please remember that "debtor jails" no longer exist. Apparently much to your chagrin.

HSBC, Barclay's/Juniper, Merrick, and others offer credit soon after BK discharge. There are plenty out there, as there should be.

Debtor jails? Where did that come from? Of course there are no debtor jails.

HSBC...no deal. Merrick...no deal. Haven't tried Barclays yet. HSBC and Merrick said no, even with a 700 score. Said try back in 6 months.

If you have some banks that you know for sure, not guessing, please let us know.

Just because someone else gets approved doesn't mean you will, no matter what your score is.
