Well, fresh out of bankruptcy I read all post that pertained to opening an account. Since I had worked on my CR and disputed all I could I decided to try CCC (Christian Credit Union) that had been mention. Unfortuntely I was denied the account due to Chexsystem. I had emailed them a copy of my petition before but was wondering should I email them my discharge papers, or should I do like one of the threads and notify each bank that's listed in Chexsystem? It's very disappointing. I did however email CCC and let them know that those accounts listed were all included in my Bankruptcy. Any advise on what more I could do? Really wanted a CU, but glad to find out online verses in person. You know this was really discouraging after everyting I've already gone through but I will continue to fight!! Help if you can, thanks
Unfortuntely I was denied the account due to Chexsystem.
ChexSystems gathers information about mishandled checking and savings accounts to a central location, then shares that information among their member banks and credit unions. You probably have a history of bouncing checks somewhere in your past that got you entered into Chex.
Being listed on ChexSystems makes getting a new checking or savings account, or (as you have discovered) a credit card from a bank or credit union that pulls Chex information impossible.
Here's a link to Victims of ChexSystems that helps folks sort out how to overcome being listed - http://chexvictims.com/cs/ They have a list of financial institutions that don't use ChexSystems so that you can open new accounts as well. It's free, so on the front page, just read the terms and conditions, then click I Agree.
In your case, sara4, if you must have a credit card, try applying for new credit at non-banking institutions. HTH!

I pulled a Chexsystems report right before my discharge and called and talked to them and they said to fax them my petition that listed the banks showing on Chexsystems which I did. I will go back to the website you listed but I have been there several times. I do understand it's going to be impossible unless I can convience each bank (2 - with neg info) to remove me from the chexsystem. Anyway, thanks for the advice IRPRN. I'm really depressed and just don't know where to apply to start rebuilding my credit as others have done. Guess I'll just have to take some time and keep the bank I have for now (Wachovia) which don't offer me anything unless I have loads of money. I have a checking acct (no checks) with Wachovia and I have a visacheckcard with them but I was just hoping to get with a CU instead. I opened my Wachoiva acct because the previousl acct I had was listed on my BK (bank of america) so my lawyer suggested I move my direct deposits prior to my BK. I'm retired military so I have retirment check, disability check from VA and I'm working full time. My income is good but I'm afraid I'll be denied new credit if I apply. Not sure who to apply with to rebuild or if I should just continue to work on my CR and save verses trying to get a credit card. What do you think? Should I just go over the list that others have applied or should I just wait since my discharge was only last week? I guess I see Cherylsnnsmith and wonder if I'd better get busy applying for credit? Again thanks for responding and the info. Cherylynnsmith if you're reading this how and when did you start applying?
Sara,
Just curious, what products did you apply for with CCCU? I've been hovering and waiting for some credit card payoffs to show as zero on my credit reports so just applied today for the auto refi and the credit card. I have ONE old account on chex systems that I took care of a year or so back that had been included in my bK. But had paid it off afterwards because of a little incident with wellsfargo, so hopefully it won't affect my app.....
P.S. I was told by Wells Fargo that whether included in BK or not if the amount is not paid off they still consider it an open case and will not open a new acct. However if you settle the account with the other bank they will then open a new acct. The don't require you to pay the money becuase it is discharged, they just won't open the account.
I was only applying for the checking account. Didn't need anything else. Like I said I have a checking w/visa checkcard at Wachovia but was hoping to get a credit union. I've applied at Navy FCU since my brother is a member I won't have a problem getting in. I'm retired AF. At any rate I was really interested in CCCU but I'll press on and not let the turn down get the best of me. Best of luck for you with whatever you're looking for.
Wow, thanks Dpickrn for the information, I will fax it to them tomorrow, my fax machine is down. It would be great if it worked for me as well. Congrats on getting it removed!!! Way to go!!! My lawyer had thought it would have been removed automatically but so far it's still listed. I will give your letter a shot at this point I have nothing to lose!! Thanks for the info, I'll keep you posted.
I'm in Florida. Whatever help you can give will be great. I'm in the Pensacola area and so far everything I've found is further away, but I did find a local credit union listed that I plan on trying tomorrow. Again thanks for any information!

Thanks Citygirl for the list, I'll see if any work for me. It's so hard because a lot of the information I found online concerning friendly Chexsystem banking turned out not to be true. I'll check them all out again. Also most of the ones on the list are not in my area. Again, thanks for the list I'm checking them out and might just end up with US Bank. Hoping to find a CU. I've applied at Navy Federal through a friend that's a member. I'm sure something will pan out, I'm just stressing about it since CCCU turned me down online. I did get approved for a Cap 1 credit card however so at least someone's willing to give me another chance.
Again, thanks I'lm going to stop stressing and go to bed.
Thanks Dpickrn I put my Customer ID # on the letter along with my bk case #.
Good night all I think I've stressed enough for one day!

if someone has been reported to chexsystems because of overdrawing an account, if you can get a letter from that bank saying you paid off that debt... normally you can open an account somewhere else. or reopen the old account.
the banks that i know of who are willing to work with you are:
Commerce NA
Wachovia
PNC
I had been reported because my old Wachovia and PNC accounts got overdrawn, but I was able to pay them off and reopen my accounts... I even was able to open a new account at Commerce.
I discovered this after a year of going to check cashing places and using crappy NON-FDIC online banking... if I had known that I could reopen my accounts, I would have done so!
