    Student Loans after discharge

I have a question. How should student loans be reported on credit reports after discharge. We are beginning the rebuilding process and I pulled my credit report and my student loans are listed as included and/or discharged in bankruptcy. Obviously they were not discharged and they have since been consolidated. The other loans they were consolidated are all paid satisfact. and closed because of the consolidation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ruth

Well after a discharged mines reported $0 balance owed only because they were deferred and I think if yours was deferred then that's how they should report them.

I mean there is nothing wrong with how they are reporting only that its incorrect but it's not hurting you as being reported that way I think when you start paying them off they would change the status to pay as agreed with the balance info

One of mine showed IIB as well. I disputed it, but didn't have much luck, so I ended up calling the lender and telling them to stop reporting wrong. If you consolidated, those loans should say "closed" or "refinanced," with a zero balance, and should NOT say IIB because they weren't.
      Filed Chapter 7: 9/29/06
      341 Meeting: 11/01/06
      Last Day for Objections: 1/01/07
      Discharged and closed: 1/03/07

Thanks for the help. Since the accounts are now closed, I have disputed all instances of them showing included and/or discharged in Chapter 7. When I started looking into it 2 of the 3 companies were already reporting as closed so I just have the one to deal with, thank goodness.

If I may throw in my 2-cents on student loans...make sure they are reported correctly. You don't want them to state IIB if possible. This is especially true if you ever anticipate working for the federal government. One of the first questions they will ask is if you defaulted on a student loan. Feds take student loans pretty seriously.

I agree, and it also makes it impossible to get a federally backed mortgage, like the one we have through Rural Housing. I couldn't be on the mortgage (or consider my income for the max loan amount) due to the fact that years ago I defaulted on one of my student loans. That kept our buying power VERY low!

Easy Fix! Same the happened to me. Sallie Mae explained that by law they are required to list them as IIB as soon as the Bk if filed. Once it it discharged then they asked me to write a letter to them requesting to correct it. I did and it was corrected by the end of that month.
