Post BK: Approved for a home security system?

I know that home security companies like Brinks and ADT base their approvals on your credit history/report. We've been in our house for over 5 yrs and have never had a security system installed in our home because we kept putting it off, but now that we've been through a ch. 13 (awaiting discharge now) I'm afraid to call and see about getting one for fear of being denied. Our last home was built with one and I would just feel more safe.

Anyway my question is has anyone had any luck being approved for a home security system with monitoring since you filed BK? If so, what company was it? Thanks for any input.

I think they usually base the installation on the fact that you own your home. I had one installed previously and never saw a hit on my credit. Just call brinks and ask.

I think it would be a bit ridiculous for a home monitoring service to request a credit check...

Yeah I agree it's ridiculous but it's in the fine print of all the major home security companies that they will check your credit history to see if you qualify. I guess they want to make sure you're going to pay them every month.

Personally, I would avoid any security company that requires a credit check for service. But thats just me. They would never get my business...

I have worked telemarketing getting leads for home security system companies. ADT is one of the companies I worked, but not Brinks. Anyway I do know to qualify for ADT you cannot have poor credit. There is also another lesser known company (I cannot think of thier name right off) they do install wireless sytems in rental homes/apts but for them credit has to be good or excellent.

I don't really know anything else about the process (exact score needed etc) as it was just my job to get the leads and someone else followed up.

I would just wait for your disacharge and then call them up and tell them your interested in thier service but you don't know what your credit is like and see what they say.

I guess they want good credit because they install a system in your home for free or low cost, that is very costly to them and in turn you pay the term of our contract, usually 3 years. Makes sense, I just never saw the inquiry on my report. I remember them mentioning something about homeowner's not needing a credit check.
