Hooters less than a month after DC

On a whim I applied for a Hooters card last week, less than a month after my Ch. 7 DC. I got the card in the mail today with $1000 credit limit. I didn't expect to be able to start rebuilding my credit so soon. On one hand it terrifies me to own a credit card again. On the other hand I feel a little more like "normal". I can rent a car if needed. If my car breaks down out and I'm out of town I don't have to worry how I'd get home. That's all I want the thing for is extreme emergencies but I know I need to use it to rebuild my credit. That's where it gets scary. At least I know I will have those big, orange letters that spell "HOOTERS" staring at me every time I pull out the card. That right there will be enough to make me think twice.

Hey thats great! You have a much better start than any of the rest of us! I think it took me 3 tries and quite a few months post discharge to get my hooters card. And since they report regularly to all 3 credit bureaus, you should not bother to or even consider having to apply for any cards that have fees! Way to go!

Thanks, I was extremely surprised to get approved. From posts I've read on here it sounds like their application process is completely random.

If you're nervous about it, use it only for gas purchases, something you can handle...and pay off the full balance every month.

It was my first card, got it last Oct....then household bank...w/no fee.

Good luck & happy credit rebuilding

Hubby and I have a good laugh everyday when we go to them mailbox, I think we get at least 4 pre approved's a day. Almost as many as when my credit score was 730.

I always wonder what would happen if I fill them out.

Of course, I'm not ready for that yet. I still dont trust myself completely.

I should add there was a fee of $78 which I somehow missed when I applied. But, I figure that's part of the cost of rebuilding poor credit. I have a credit card and my credit reports already reflect that I'm in good standing on that card. Things are getting better every day.

                    A $78 fee for hooters

Most are fee free or have like a $48 fee....

But when put into perspective, a 1,000 limit to start for $78 is alot better than the routes most of us went, like 2 $300 household & orchard cards, 600 in limits for $120

And anything is better than the first premiere/aspire cards. But since you have a good limit card to start, you don't have to worry about anymore annual fees after this, so congrats again

Thanks again. I figure it's only fair to have to pay a fee for my first CC so soon after BK discharge. I could have waited it out for a no fee or low fee card but honestly, I feel more secure with a CC in my wallet. I do a lot of driving around to different counties for my job and it's comforting to know that if my car breaks down miles from home I can get help. I don't have any family close enough to come help me in emergencies so it's nice to have some peace of mind, even if it is plastic. :-)

Yeah really. A 300 limit card wouldn't help you too much if your car broke down...

Hubby finally got approved for Hooters, we were discharged going on two years now. I get a smirk every now and then when I use it!

Here's my funny Hooter's card story. My daughter desperately needed new bras so I bought her a few and the sales lady had a good laugh when I pulled out my Hooter's card! I didn't actually pay with it but had to pull it out for a laugh.

Yeah I'm embarrassed by it. When I peeled the authorization sticker off and saw the hooters logo, I put the sticker back on and left it there
