I looked around the forum, but couldn't find an answer.
I've been trying to clean up my report(s). Everything looks good except one account. It was a credit card through Providian (now Washington Mutual). Apparently, they sold my account and it is listed as such on my report, along with the balance and described as a "charge off".
I've disputed the entry, but it came back today as verified. Which I suppose is technically true. But the account was listed in my bankruptcy and therefore shouldn't it be listed as such with a "0" balance?
This verification came back from Equifax. My credit monitoring notified me that Transunion has now also listed it as a "charge off." It's listed the same at Experian, but I'm still waiting to hear on my dispute with them.
My bankruptcy was filed 10/18/2005
341 was 11/18/2005
Discharge was 1/31/2006
I'm going to contact the "new owners" tomorrow, but as near as I can tell, the account was sold somewhere around 11/2005 AFTER the initial filing.
What recourse do I have to get it reported correctly? Any sample letters for this around.
