    Is my future grim?

This is my situation: I filed a chapter 7 and it was discharged two years ago. I am now expecting to graduate with my bachelor's in accounting in May and I'm also engaged and expecting to be married in May. My question is how will my bankruptcy haunt my future. Will it prevent me from getting a job within a financial institution with my accounting degree? Will it prevent me from getting an apartment? My FICO score is currently 633 according to WaMu. On a side note, my fiance also doesn't know about my bankruptcy and I'm not sure how to tell her. Any suggestions?

    First, welcome to the forum!

You've been discharged for 2 years and getting an apartment shouldn't be a problem at all.

I haven't heard of anyone getting denied a job because of a BK, but I'm aware that credit checks may be necessary for employment, especially those that may deal with financial matters.

As for what to tell your fiance....well....you'll most likely have to tell her because if and when you both apply for credit or for an apartment (as youhave mentioned), the topic may come up. I would come straight out and tell her the truth so there are no surprises. But like I said, you've been discharged for 2 years now, your credit is looking good, so you shouldn't have any real problems getting approvals.

Thanks for the warm and quick welcome! The reassurance about being able to get an apartment feels really good. Looking into the future I'm hoping to be able to get a decent intrest rate on an auto loan in the next year. I guess if my fiance doesn't flip out all will be well. Thanks again for the welcome!

With respect to the interest rate for an auto loan, have you done anything to help re-build your last 2 years credit history, such as a credit card?

That aside, you should do well as far as getting a decent loan and interest rate for an auto loan. Read through the Buying A Car After BK section. There are many members here that have had great luck getting a new/newer car after BK...in some cases, just 2 or 3 months after discharge and with great interest rates.

yeah, I'd be more worried about that than finding an apartment and/or a decent car loan as that's the EASY part of your situation

As far as rebuilding my credit I paid my student loans throughout the bankruptcy and never missed a payment. I got a capitol one card about 6 months ago with a $750 credit limit at 14.99% and a WaMu card with a $1500 limit at 19.99%. That's all the rebuilding I've done so far.

That's great! It doesn't look grim at all, IMO. I think everything will be just fine for you.

You got a WAMU card? Way to go! I've heard they are very hard to get after BK!

Thanks again for the advice everyone. The WaMu card was pretty easy to get. I got a pre-screened offer in the mail a few months after I got my Capitol One card and they gave me the card with no fees attached which shocked me. The online account features are pretty fun, it's supposed to update your "bank card FICO" whenever they get credit updates. I hear that they are diving heavily into the subprime market now that they've acquired Providian.

I would suggest you sign on with one of the Credit Monitoring Services for a 3 in 1 type Credit report. You can see what the 3 major CRA's show as being reported for your accts.

You might be surprised to find $$$ amounts left on accts that were included in BK. Sometimes, just getting those accts cleared up and reporting accurately, with all the debt being dropped off, will raise your scores significantly.

We started disputing right after our 341. I had 4 accts just drop of my Credit Reports and Hubby's had 3 accts drop off. Accts included in BK where the Creditors didn't respond or pulled their reports. That's "Negative Events" completely erased from our Credit Reports. That coupled with getting the debt dropped to Zero has raised my scores an average of 60 points.
