Bankruptcy is not showing on my credit report

How common is this? It looks like my state did not report my bankruptcy (discharged 4 years ago). We found this out after I had told a mortgage company I had a bankruptcy. BUT since I told them they denied my refinance. I then went to another mortgage company, but didn't tell them. Will the first mortgage company report why they turned me down? Or do they just report that they turned me down?

If it's not on your credit report -- that is, all three credit bureaus -- then it is not there! It is not common for it to fall off before 7-10 years, but things do happen. The first mortgage company doesn't "report" anything. Did you check all three major credit reports?

I did, plus Wells Fargo sent me my credit report---the Public section where BK are report had nothing. We have a 678 and a 715. This is refinancing an FHA loan so when the new company asked me if I had filed within the last 7 years, I just answered no. I did not offer up this time that I had a bankruptcy. I guess I'm afraid of being busted. Thanks for your input, i'll try not to worry too much.

I would be careful if they specifically asked you if you filed and you answered "no" could be accused of mortgage fraud.

I can't agree more. They do not take kindly to fraud, especially nowadays.

You could say that you did file for BK, but that you could not remember exactly when. Then ask where on a credit report to look for it. When it's not on the report, you can say, "oh, then obviously it must have been over 7 years ago." If it's so important to the bank, they can research it (it's a public record.)

It's interesting that one of my credit reports no longer has Bankruptcy in the public record section. It's like it doesn't exist. However, I have accounts on that same report, that list accounts as IIB. Go figure!
