    Walking away from house

    Hello All!

We were discharged BK7 back in 2008 and we did not reaffirm our house. We have made on-time payments since then, but are now seriously considering walking away and finding a rental for a few years while we save money for a house down the road. One of the reasons why we are considering walking away (aside from the business decision aspect of it) is that we would like to put our kids in a better school system. Are there any reliable web sites or some other method where we could research school systems in our state (Mass)? We've heard through word-of-mouth about a couple of towns but for the most part we have no idea about most of the school systems.

Secondly. if we decided to walk-away, I understand that the 3-year clock to obtain a new mortgage doesn't start until the foreclosure process is complete. However, if I understand correct, we could potentially execute a short sale. What is th ebest way to explore this option? Should I contact the lenders directly or should I try to find a competent real estate agent?

    Thanks in advance!
