Any luck with Local Banks?

Getting very close to needing a different car.We were discharged in August of 2010 with a Chapter 7. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with local banks getting a car loan with decent rates or am I stuck looking at bigger banks online? Any input would be appreciated.

Honestly, you are usually better off going through the dealer directly. Not that you shouldn't shop around the banks to see what sort of rates may be available, but when it comes to "sub prime" car financing, the financing companies behind the scenes usually only deal with the dealers.

However, I would caution, a car payment IS NOT A FACT OF LIFE. If your current car can hold on, save money and pay cash for something reasonable.

Don't forget the "captive" finance companies - Ford Motor Credit was good to me...
