? - Post BK car world

I was just wondering if anyone could answer this: My wife and I filed and were discharged 8 months ago. She has been flooded with credit offers and I've seen nothing other than a couple of car advertisements months and months ago. The irony is that her credit was way screwed pre-BK and mine was pristine. However, my name was the only one on the house (I bought it before we married), and I surrendered it in the BK, and it's set for auction in September. I work and she doesn't.

Basically I was wondering how screwed I am when it comes to financing a car if something catastrophic happens. I'm trying to save up the cash, but you always need a plan B. I'm curious if it's maybe the house thats really screwing me right now.

    Thanks!!

I can't tell you. If you have recent missed payments for ANYTHING on your credit report, it will hurt your score tremendously. Just make sure all your post petition finances are in order.

Other than that, if you had good credit before filing, it should be pretty good within 6 months of discharge. I'm already back in the low 600s just over a month after discharge.

I have a feeling the mortgage is still reporting as late, even though it was surrendered/discharged, which would be killing me, I'm sure. That will require dispute/credit cleanup, etc. which can take months. And there seems to be quite a bit of debate on the forum over whether or not they can report mtg late post discharge.

There is no debate. They can not report late payments after you file BK if you are successfully discharged. The tradeline must read iib and zero balance if you did not reaffirm.

Get your free reports here: www.annualcreditreport.com Look at each entry to find the reporting errors.

Do NOT use the online dispute option. The CRA can do a temporary delete and put the bad info right back on the following month. Dispute in writing CMRRR. Good luck.

Just checked. Equifax is making me look glorious. No lates even. Experian is reporting lates post-filing but stops at discharge. I would think you can dispute anything post-filing. Regardless they show me at 610. Not terrible.
