Okay - all the banter on this thread aside - I am SO HAPPY to hear that people were able to get a car just a few days after being discharged! We have a Ford we are way too upside down in, after having READ THIS BOARD I have learned that reaffirming would make me the EEOC requirement of this forum, so we are going to give it back. I still don't know how it works though - our schedule J is -$900 as it is, the Ford is included in the Schedle J, but if we have decided to give the car back, won't that change the Schedule J quite a bit? I know we are still going to have to have a 2nd car payment. We both need cars to get to work, and we have NO CASH to get a klunker. Both of us need reliable transportation for our jobs. Any advice is appreciated, but rudeness or sarcasm is not. Thank you!

Unless your car payment is $1100 then I wouldn't worry about. Plus, I assume your "intent" is to reaffirm, correct? You didn't mark surrender, right?. If you checked "reaffirm", then it doesn't matter. Your intent is to reaffirm (though wisely so you will not follow through with that intent.)

Oh, Thank you Dumpinmydebt!!! Ummm. . .no. . .car payment is over $400 and something (I can't remember exactly - too much wine). And yes, we did put that we plan to reaffirm, but have since changed our minds. From what I've seen, heard, read, etc., I actually think that we will be able to get just as good of a car (maybe even newer?) and for less money. The loan is really high on this car because of past sins. It will be nice to have those forgiven as well . . . thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
