    Question about Car Prices

I looked a the prices of vehicles at NADA guides web site and the prices there are lower than at vehix.com. However, they gave an option to look at local inventory (powered by Auto Trader)which I did and the prices were about 3-4K higher than the NADA guides prices.

My question is this: When you see sticker prices in the dealerships and at online car sites, such as Auto Trader, how much lower than that should you aim for?

In what context...for what purpose are you trying to value the car?

I haven't bought one for 13 years since I bought my present car new. I need to replace it before I file Ch13 and I don't have a clue how much I can negotiate off the prices I see listed.

Autotrader used to be pretty good when it was more private party sales than dealers, but now that website is dominated by dealers advertising used cars, the prices are a tad high.

For dealers, you can expect to negotiate about within a range of 0-10% off the sticker price.

I personally like edmunds.com. For NADA site, you want to make sure you are use both fair and good condition for the vehicle and use private party sale.

the most important thing here is that what type of car suits your needs, work and personality. You dont have to get a very expensive car.
