To those who have been approved - your job history?

I was declined by Capital One and we've been discharged (Chpt 7) since June 2007.

We make enough money, my credit scores are 532 (TU), 556 (EQ) and 630 (EXP). I did all my following up with the credit reports except for Transunion which keeps giving me an error (hence the low score).

Anyway, I wonder if job history plays a factor? Every online application asks for length of time at the job. Well, I just started a new job this past month. So is that affecting me being denied?

To those of you who've been approved - do you all have a long employment history with the same employer? Just trying to figure out what's wrong with my situation.

    Thanks!

Why don't you call them and ask a rep. directly. Did you have any prior credit established after the BK? I was discharged end of Jan 2007. I established a secure credit card, and have a card from HOOTERS ($1000 limit/they just boosted it to $1200). I also got CAP ONE for $3000 (but I also got a loan from them/when I traded in my Sonata for an upgrade).

I don't have any revolving credit except for a student loan that is still in good standing. I don't have any delinquincies on my CR as of now... I think I need to apply for a Hooters card! LOL I keep seeing people on here with those.

Watch out of all kinds of calls from different dealers, EVEN the same dealers. You will always get approved with a fat interest rate (25% !). Don't be applying for too many credit cards, too many hits has a damaging effect on your credit, thats for sure! Back to the dealers call they will never stop! I had to change my phone number, due to working night shift and getting calls throughout the day was driving me nuts!

Uggggh, wonderful. I'll definitely be expecting those. My thing is - can someone just let me know whether or not I'm approved for SOMETHING so I can move on with my life???? It would be so much easier to talk to dealers if I know I have financing. JEEZ! I wish I had it as easy as a lot of people seem to be getting it on this board. Seems like credit is just being shoved at them!

You need to stop applying for credit for a while cause you are causing a lot of inquiries to show up on your credit reports. You are just not too long out of BK and now are attempting to obtain credit and getting denials, most likely due to the BK on your records. Many inquiries can hurt you too and stay on your credit reports for two years now (used to be one year). You need to know that if someone gets approved for credit shortly after BK, that it may not occur for you. While I see glowing reportings from folks on here getting credit, there are many that do not get the credit either. You need to thoroughly go over all three of your reports and let some time pass as to trying to get credit. I know it might be tough to do without but if you continue with the inquiries and denials, it just will take longer for any approvals. BK is not the best thing on your credit reports as you are finding out.

You say you have a decent income...can you come up with 20% downpayment? Most car dealers should be willing to work with you if you have a decent down payment.

Stop applying for credit cards immediately! Its tempting to try, but trust me, if you were denied by Hooters, you'll need to go some other route.

Google "Credit Bible Secrets"...it has changed my view on credit and assisted increasing all my scores significantly in a short 3 month period. Bk was in July 07 with all scores in the 500s...now all above 600 with one at 675 (FICO)! Good luck!

Just a thought, here...even though you don't want to apply for, and be denied for too many...you might want to consider applying for a Capital One card. We were discharged in August '07. I applied online for a CapOne card and was approved in about 15 seconds. My scores were 538, 565, 583. Are you getting any credit card offers in the mail? I got lots of them, but didn't apply for any until I got the Cap One offer that was 0% APR for the first year, then 12.9...which doesn't matter, because I pay it off every month anyways. When I rec'd that one, I went online and got it. Now, it only has a $500 limit, but it's a start at rebuilding. Since then, we also applied for CapOne Blank Check for a new car (used), and were approved at 12.45% for up to $30,000. So, even though you don't want lots of hits on your credit, remember that multiple hits for vehicle financing during a 2 week period are considered more of a single inquiry.

BTW...at the dealership, we got better financing than that CapOne Blank Check...

                      Good luck!

Washington Mutual is also very BK friendly but all your other recent inquiries may work against you at this time.

We have decent income but not enough to come up with a down. We make enough to afford the monthly payments, but not enough to come up with 2 and 3k right now.

The problem for us is that I was in an auto accident with a diesel truck in December. My car is considered totaled, with $10k worth of damage - although it runs. Our insurance lapsed THE DAY BEFORE the accident. So we have no coverage for the accident. SO I'm basically screwed. To top it off, our insurance is requesting for certain damages to be fixed or they're going to cancel us within 30 days. I don't have $1500 to fix those specific damages, so I need to get another car - period.

Thank you for the Credit Bible resource. I will DEFINITELY be looking at that.
