Applying for Car Loans (online vs in person)

Knowing that your loans are dependent on your credit report, is there a difference if you apply for financing online vs "in person/at dealership"? This is more for dealerships/manufacturers than other credit companies (e.g. Capital One, etc). Any experience or advice to share?

From my experience when I applied on line I get hit left and right with all these offers and my cell phone just rings and wakes me up, as I sleep all day and work all night. It got to the point where I just change my number. Even when you apply at a dealership, the will keep calling you until you have bought a car from them or just tell them that you bought a car and stop calling.

    Best of Luck, Catchmeifyoucan

If you got out of Bk, and looking for a car loan, check out mycccu.com (christian community credit union) apparently they are bk friendly and cyndismith got a great rate, shes a member in here!

You might find your best deal is financing with a captive lender, that is, find a manufacturer or dealer like Ford where you can get in-house financing. The main thing is to only buy a car you can afford - and by all means get your approved financing locked before you decide what car you want.

If using a dealer, don't talk to any saleman or look at a car until you've met and had an in-office discussion with the finance manager. KNOW what your credit scores are and telly them what you want (in terms of money, that is - remember, you're not even looking at a car yet!) Ask them if they can finance you, and give them ONE shot to run your credit - make it very clear they are not to farm you out to secondary lenders - they can fax your credit rpt and talk it thru over the phone.

        Good Luck!
