Hi Everyone,
I filed a CH 7 and had intended to keep my car. However, it was underwater (majorly since I had a 25% APR from stuff that happened in my divorce long story), so my lawyer told me it would be better to see if I could get something else with a lower interest rate. I was able to get another car and CPS (Consumer Portfolio) offered me 14% (which isn't stellar, but def better than 25%).
Couple of Questions:
1. I left the old car with the dealership I got the new one from. They said they will send a certified letter to my old lender letting them know it has been surrendered (since I had originally intended to keep it). Has anyone ever done that before?
2. The auto loan I had completely dropped off of my credit report (even though I had planned to retain and pay). Will my surrendering it affect my credit score - like will it show as a repo? I was never late on it and it is still current today. Wasn't sure since it isn't on the report anymore and I surrendered it.
3. I see on the CPS website I can pay online for a fee. They offer a free, pay in person cash option at select stores... but I don't think I trust that. Anyone dealt with them in the past? Do they process online payments quickly?
Thanks!
