One of my very good friends called me today and shared something she read this morning about the apostle Paul, and how he held things loosely, so they wouldn't have power over him, and if they were taken away, it wouldn't effect his spirit.
I should have had her email it to me, but she hates technology... something about peace, and how it can't be taken away by earthly events, no matter difficult or trying. I know that in my Journey to where I am today I have learned that sometimes it's only by losing things that we can realize how unimportant they are, and replace the time devoted to them with time devoted to the things that really matter in life.
This is not a new thought to me, but so wonderful to get another reminder, pointing me in the right direction, as this is something I've spent a lot of time on in the past few years. I know I've come a long way - I'd like to go even further, to reach that place where temporal things have all faded to insignificance, so that if they all were lost, the effect on my peace would be negligible.
How amazing it is to me that I have a loving Father who brings me peace, nudges me toward contentment, pokes and prods me when I don't listen close enough, and is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides all things. And one of those things... right now... is a belated birthday cake, so I'm off! But, to anyone who reads this, I hope that you are walking this same path, gaining ground day by day. Stronger and more connected to what really matters in your life.
