So, BofA called and left me another voice mail. This is the same woman who called in mid-Jan and left me a message saying they were going to call my old pastor since I hadn't returned their call. This time she said that they absolutely had the right to call people to locate me (they have all my info) and said that I can't just "pretend it doesn't exist". Unbelievable, since I call them every 2-3 weeks...
When I called back to say again, you have my info - therefore you cannot call around asking people where I am - I talked to a different guy. He looked over the notes in our file and said he can't believe she said those things, when it is clearly documented how many times I've called them, and that I was having surgery on the 19th. He actually also asked me if I had considered filing bankruptcy...
We talked for a bit about the housing market, economy, etc. and he was really quite pleasant. He did tell me that all 4 accounts are going to be "gone" by Saturday, but didn't pressure me for payment. I think it was fairly obvious to him what we should do...
Since BofA has taken over Countrywide, they just 'inherited' a roughly 105k second mortgage for one of our homes where the first is doing a foreclosure. So they now hold about 183k of our "unsecured" debt, the other 171k being held by 6 other creditors. What a relief that all of these accounts are old (the oldest now being 15 years, newest I think is about 4-5 years) and don't have any questionable use on them. Whew.
Ok. And I really mean it this time, not talking to them anymore!
