Rethinking Homeownership
i know so many people have expressed concerned after losing their homes and wonder if they will ever be able to buy another home again.
while this was put out by time magizine back in this article originally appeared in the september 6, 2010 issue of Time magazine. i think it applies even more today!! i'm not listing this in the news area, as this is really "old" news, but i think worthly of bringing up the subject matter again.
thought it might be interesting to look back and see how far we have come in these past months. i still believe most of this or even more of what is stated applies and effects most of those thinking about buying again, even more today, than yesterday.
Homeownership has let us down. For generations, Americans believed that owning a home was an axiomatic good. Our political leaders hammered home the point. Herbert Hoover argued that homeownership could “change the very physical, mental and moral fiber of one’s own children.” Franklin Roosevelt held that a country of homeowners was “unconquerable.” Homeownership could even, in the words of George H.W. Bush’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Jack Kemp, “save babies, save children, save families and save America.” A house with a front lawn and a picket fence wasn’t just a nice place to live or a risk-free investment; it was a way to transform a nation.

you really need to think about what's best for you. how high is your interest and payments as opposed to renting the same type of housing in that area, if that's why your plan is.
i would speak with your atty or someone else you feel comfortable with about your financial affairs. best of luck to you!
