I've just read several articles on what things in a divorce can be discharged and what can't be if one of the parties is/has filed for bankruptcy. I couldn't find anything about money a family member gave as a gift-that was to be paid back. My not-soon-enough-ex-to-be has wasted all our money and being the smart but sleezy guy he is; I'm wondering if he is sitting on "nothing" so that things can go better for him in the disillusion that we are trying to do.
To make a long story short, I gave him my master's fund money when we bought our first house. We then borrowed more money from my parents for our second house. We did this so that he could start his business without having to get a loan; and due to unemployment and his medical bills we never were able to pay it back. Nor did I ever get my masters degree; which he promised I'd be able to go get. My lawyer said that I am completely entitled to have this back (this statement being said before there was no money in the account). I have no idea if my ex is going to file for bankruptcy but knowing that he always has a plan, I'm concerned that he knows much more about all this divorce stuff and will be able to get of this very large sum of money.
Please if anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful
