Now that I've filed, it's nice not having to hear anymore calls. I hear that some folks deal with these calls for months or years on end before they finally decide to go bankrupt. Wow! How do they live like that? I am glad we had the money available to go ahead and file for bankruptcy because I would hate to have to save the money and put up with the calls for months.
The worst by far was Discover! They called when I was four days late and would call repeatedly unless I answered. Discover even called my mom (she lives in another city, three hours away)! Even if I did answer, they'd keep calling every few days. Next was Citicard. They would call every week and that turned into every four days or so. Finally, Bank of America just called me today, a whole two weeks after being late. They were the easiest to deal with, since I just told them I had filed.
Funny, I always felt guilty talking to the reps because they were nice. They congratulated me on the baby and most sounded like college kids. Only one person got slighty irritated with me when I told them I just couldn't pay. That was the most annoying thing- the fact that they kept calling although I never had anything new to tell them. I guess the tactic is to try to annoy a payment out of you!
One tip- have your lawyers name and number handy for them after filing. I had to go look mine up two times because it was stored in my cell phone but I hadn't written it down.
