My PACER addiction is certainly cured. I finally have kept a $0 PACER bill since July 2010. Can you believe it?
I think that I helped contribute to the PACER system since I have spent over $364 in the last 3 years. I have no data from 2008, and I'm sure that I spent at least $100 on PACER in 2008.
January 2009 $77.52
April 2009 $29.20
July 2009 $13.76
January 2010 $53.52 (included $9.92 "un-billed" from October 2009)
April 2010 $93.92 (due to conversion and A/P)
July 2010 $96.88 (due to conversion and A/P)
No Other Bills!
So, please don't get addicted to PACER! That money was really "serious" when I was in my Chapter 13 Plan from August 2008 through February 2010! I really racked up PACER costs in 2010 during my conversion, opposition to a relief from stay motion (through final evidentiary hearing), and an adversary proceeding which I won.
Shortly after 'Hub and I joined the forum, a member stated that she had racked up such a huge PACER bill in her pre-filing planning days, that she actually listed PACER as a creditor and got her bill discharged.
Thanks for the warning JB. ;-) I know it's been awhile, but this thread will always be timely.
I was shocked to see that I had racked-up a $28. bill, last month, from what amounted to simply logging-in a couple times to view how a half dozen other filer's (or their attorneys) filled-out their schedules & summaries, etc.
Hence, I have an issue with how PACER explains their fees; how they charge for viewing the documents. As I understood it, the document viewing fees that PACER charges – were supposed to be for just that, viewing filed documents. However I was charged for EVERY WEBPAGE – I was simply trying to navigate through, before finding and choosing a document to view – after the 'Sign-In' page!
Therefore, I've been planning on writing to the admin.'s at PACER and asking them to waive some of this quarters bill. As I don't feel they made it clear at all – that a user gets charged for EVERY WEBPAGE navigated through – beyond the PACER 'Sign-In' page!
Think I'd be wasting my time? Or that it might be worth a try? Thanks ;-)
